Rudy - Movie Review essays
Rudy - Movie Review essays Rudy is one of the most inspirational movies I have seen all year. The movie was produced in 1993 and was shot on the Notre Dame campus. Rudy Ruettiger struggled throughout his school years and was not one of the smartest boys in his class, but he always tried. He worked harder than any average man would to make his dreams become a reality. I like many things about this movie, because its so inspirational and funny at the same time. One thing I really like about the movie is how hard he really works to reach his goals. A second thing I like about this movie is when he goes to talk to the father at the church about going to Notre Dame, and the father thinks he wants to become a priest too. The real reason I really like that part is just because its so funny. And a third thing I really like about the movie Rudy is when the man that he works for at the Notre Dame field leaves him the key to the room that Rudy sleeps in every night, and leaves him blankets. It was really sweet, and it does seem like something someone would do in real life. There are also certain things I dont like about the movie. One thing I really dont like about the movie is when Rudys best friend dies, it is a very high emotional part of the story, and its also very sad. Another thing I really dont like about the movie is when his dad says that its fine to watch the game from his living TV, and then when Rudy says, Would it be different if I was on the field playing? And his father doesnt say anything at all. The last thing that I dont like about the movie is that when Rudy decides he wants to go to Notre Dame to play football, no one is there for him to support his decision, not even his family, or his girlfriend. It almost reminds me of my own family. Overall, I think that Rudy is a great movie. And I encourage anyone to see it, as it is very inspirational and very true. ...

Simplest Formula From Percent Composition
Simplest Formula From Percent Composition This is a worked example chemistry problem to calculate the simplest formula from the percent composition. Simplest Formula from Percent Composition Problem Vitamin C contains three elements: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Analysis of pure vitamin C indicates that the elements are present in the following mass percentages: C 40.9H 4.58O 54.5 Use the data to determine the simplest formula for vitamin C. Solution We want to find the number of moles of each element in order to determine the ratios of the elements and the formula. To make the calculation easy (i.e., let the percentages convert directly to grams), lets assume we have 100 g of vitamin C. If you are given mass percentages, always work with a hypothetical 100-gram sample. In a 100 gram sample, there are 40.9 g C, 4.58 g H, and 54.5 g O. Now, look up the atomic masses for the elements from the Periodic Table. The atomic masses are found to be: H is 1.01C is 12.01O is 16.00 The atomic masses provide a moles-per-gram conversion factor. Using the conversion factor, we can calculate the moles of each element: moles C 40.9 g C x 1 mol C / 12.01 g C 3.41 mol Cmoles H 4.58 g H x 1 mol H / 1.01 g H 4.53 mol Hmoles O 54.5 g O x 1 mol O / 16.00 g O 3.41 mol O The numbers of moles of each element are in the same ratio as the number of atoms C, H, and O in vitamin C. To find the simplest whole number ratio, divide each number by the smallest number of moles: C: 3.41 / 3.41 1.00H: 4.53 / 3.41 1.33O: 3.41 / 3.41 1.00 The ratios indicate that for every one carbon atom there is one oxygen atom. Also, there are 1.33 4/3 hydrogen atoms. (Note: converting the decimal to a fraction is a matter of practice! You know the elements must be present in whole number ratios, so look for common fractions and become familiar with the decimal equivalents for fractions so you can recognize them.) Another way to express the atom ratio is to write it as 1 C : 4/3 H : 1 O. Multiply by three to obtain the smallest whole-number ratio, which is 3 C: 4 H : 3 O. Thus, the simplest formula of vitamin C is C3H4O3. Answer C3H4O3 Second Example This is anotherà worked example chemistry problem to calculate the simplest formula from the percent composition. Problem The mineral cassiterite is a compound of tin and oxygen. Chemical analysis of cassiterite shows that the mass percentages of tin and oxygen are 78.8 and 21.2, respectively. Determine the formula of this compound. Solution We want to find the number of moles of each element in order to determine the ratios of the elements and the formula. To make the calculation easy (i.e., let the percentages convert directly to grams), lets assume we have 100 g of cassiterite. In a 100 gram sample, there are 78.8 g Sn and 21.2 g O. Now, look up the atomic masses for the elements from theà Periodic Table. The atomic masses are found to be: Sn is 118.7O is 16.00 The atomic masses provideà a moles-per-gram conversion factor. Using the conversion factor, we can calculate the moles of each element: moles Sn 78.8 g Sn x 1 mol Sn / 118.7 g Sn 0.664 mol Snmoles O 21.2 g O x 1 mol O / 16.00 g O 1.33 mol O The numbers of moles of each element are in the same ratio as the number of atoms Sn and O in cassiterite. To find the simplest whole number ratio, divide each number by the smallest number of moles: Sn: 0.664 / 0.664 1.00O: 1.33 / 0.664 2.00 The ratios indicate that there is oneà tin atom for every twoà oxygen atoms. Thus, theà simplest formulaà of cassiterite is SnO2. Answer SnO2

Social Media - Essay Example Other noticeable social media platforms include Google Corporationââ¬â¢s Google+ and Wikipedia, which normally serves as a reference site. Social media is no doubt becoming an integral part of human lives. They have been celebrated for the fact that they enhance communication between individuals, hence making interaction much easier. The role of social media in marketing has also been applauded as stakeholders have argued that it is the next big thing in marketing. Social media platforms increases both brand recognition and loyalty while at the same time reducing the cost of marketing. Experts have also attested to the fact that it improves customer experience. One major disadvantage of social media platforms According to (Kerpen, 2011) is the fact that their users tend to lose their privacy ââ¬Å"You lose certain confidentialities as compared to not being on social network.â⬠Similarly, concerns have been raised over the prospect of online bullying and stakeholders in various industries have overtime attested to the fact that social media platforms bring about distraction during working hours, hence resulting into time wastage. The Social Marketing book (Zarella, 2010) majorly revolves around how social media and its components have transformed the marketing world. In as much as commercial adverts, discounts and other marketing strategies are still worthy practices, social media marketing is much easier as it lowers the cost and enables producers to interact with the customers at a close range. The source on likability of social media (Kerpen, 2011), heavily touches on some of the reasons why various parts of the globe have faith in social media. One of the reasons why manufacturers and service providers for example, prefer social media is they get to improve their products from the customer comments. Customers on the other hand have fallen in love with the fact that social media takes the pressure of

Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence Assignment
Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence on oil - Assignment Example There are numerous forms of energy such as geothermal, solar, fossil fuels, biomass, nuclear, and wind energy among others. Of all the forms of energy, human beings have tended to depend mostly on oil for their energy uses. Enerdata (2011) notes, oil is the most popular and dominant form of energy in recent times constituting over 60% when combined with coal. With the increasing energy consumption, dependency on oil increases. It is this increase that has raised concerns among environmental activists and other persons and institutions who are concerned with sustainable environment. Their concerns are informed by the fact that oil as a source of energy has limited capacity and cannot be relied upon to sustain the energy needs of the present and future generations. The other major concern is the fact that oil energy has adverse effects to the environment and has greatly contributed to the global warming phenomenon which is undermining the very existence of human life (Boyle, 2004). It is against this background that the need for alternative energy sources has heightened. Alternative energy sources are necessary in order to substitute oil energy as the major source of energy hence reducing dependency on it. Alternative energy sources will provide large amount of power which will be essential in meeting the energy needs of the worldââ¬â¢s growing population. Alternative energy sources are the answer to ending human dependence on oil. Indeed, oil is the dominant energy source across the world presently. It is a non- renewable source of energy. It is a natural resource present in some parts of the world and has numerous applications. Despite having negative effects to the environment, oil is considered as one of the most efficient source of energy. However, due to immense consumption the resource is getting scarce. According to World Energy Outlook (2010), oil energy dominance as a source of energy cannot be disputed and has many uses in industries, automobiles, p lanes, and homes. Production of electricity in most instances relies on oil to run stream turbines. Cars, tractors, buses, and industrial machineries all depend on oil. Also, production of industrial products that are consumed by people is facilitated in great part by oil energy. In a nutshell, oil energy is intertwined to survival of the human race. However, this does not mean that oil energy has no substitutes (Tester et al, 2005). In order to understand oil energy and the importance of alternative to reduce dependency on it, it is important to understand the types of oil energy. They include; petrol, ethane, diesel, gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas, fuel oil, gasoline, kerosene, and fuel oil. Vital lubricants used in machineries and automobiles are also considered as oil products. All these types of oil and oil products play crucial role in making human life better and easier through increasing efficiency of machines and equipments. Despite the usefulness and many applications o f oil energy in the world, it is agreeable especially among ââ¬Ëenvironmental consciousââ¬â¢ persons that oil energy have immense adverse effects to the environment and there is need to substitute it with alternative energy sources in order to reduce dependency on it. Turk and Bensel (2011) argue that oil energy is contributing to environmental degradation in numerous ways.

Lack of Communication Essay Example for Free
Lack of Communication Essay Lack of communication is the number one cause in divorces in the United States, while there are marriages that work out there are many that donââ¬â¢t. For every two marriages there has been one divorce in the 21st century. (Britannica) Often in a relationship we donââ¬â¢t consider the small things and we move to quickly not thinking about the opinion of the people we interact with. In this article by Aziza Shumba she gives very clear, concise details on why communication is important in a relationship. An interesting fact I happened to stumble upon while reading was that a lack of communication can affect all aspects of life, from what you like to wear to what color paint you paint your home. Some couples feel like they communicate but the key is communicating effectively. Communicating effectively means communicating thoroughly, being optimistic, keeping an open mind and having a listening ear to new opinions. This is very important when it comes to using it in the work place, considering many people just go along with what they are told and never speak unless spoken to. In the work place many people have usually one of three issues: they never speak their opinion, the person who is overbearing, or the person who rides both sides of the fence, it doesnââ¬â¢t make a situation easier but it does make it easier when you can talk to someone and they can keep a conversation without criticism, ignorance or pessimistic attitudes. This is also a great way to build a better relationship with the ones you work with by giving you a stronger confidence when speaking and communicating. Although effective communication is very important, planning and time management is very important when communicating with people. I figured out this is very important once I got to college because if you donââ¬â¢t have good time management it will disrupt your whole life schedule and those around you. For example if I decide to wait until the last minute to turn in homework at 11:55 at night, and then my computer cord blows and catches my computer on fire, what would I do? I would have to wait until I could get access to another computer, and by the time I get to another computer the assignment would be late. Planning in a marriage can definitely be a ââ¬Å"killerâ⬠when it comes to marriages, the wife may unexpectedly become pregnant or he/she may decide to get a dog/cat without the other partners consent. If communication is not laid down in the beginning these things may come to be a surprise to the other partner which will lead to divorce and strife. In a marriage getting a life plan is important, even if it is not set in stone it is considerably useful in the progression of a stable marriage to have an outline of what the couple wants together. In conclusion, a lack of communication can lead to the building of other skills if it is caught early on, as long as communication is effective and you have a plan for life and use effective time management you should be able to build STRONG communication skills to help you in everyday life.

Paratextuality in Shakespeares King Lear Essay example -- William Sha
Pitching Mad Boy: How Paratextuality Mediates the Distance Between Spectators, Adaptations, and Source Texts. A popular anecdote used to introduce students and spectators to King Lear tells how, for 150 years, the stage was dominated by Nahum Tateââ¬â¢s adaptation, in which Lear and Cordelia are happily reconciled, and Cordelia is married off to Edgar. Here is what N.H. Hudson had to say about Tate: This shameless, this execrable piece of demendation. Tate improve Lear? Set a tailor at work, rather, to improve Niagara! Withered be the hand, palsied be the arm, that ever dares to touch one of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays again. (quoted in Massai 247) Of course, such sophisticated and erudite commentators as are assembled here today will be quick to point out a couple of ironies about Hudsonââ¬â¢s condemnation of Shakespeare adaptation. First, Shakespeare himself was an adaptor. Most if not all of his plays are adapted from extant plays, renaissance romance novels, or even, as in the case I will be discussing today, old Norse sagas. King Lear was adapted from an earlier play, which was itself based on Holinshedââ¬â¢s chronicles. Second, popular adaptations by Tate and Colley Cibber, among others, by making Shakespeare accessible and tasteful to Restoration and Enlightenment audiences, played no small part in establishing Shakespeare at the centre of the literary canon (Massai 247). And as an afterthought, it might be worth noting that Tateââ¬â¢s adaptation does not so much ruin the original King Lear as restore it ââ¬â Tateââ¬â¢s happy ending is more ââ¬Å"faithfulâ⬠than Shakespeare to Shakespeareââ¬â¢s sources, The True Chronicle History of King Leir and Holinshedââ¬â¢s Chronicles. Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership Essay
A. Understanding Nursing Sensitive Indicators Nursing sensitive indicators include the configuration, process and outcomes of nursing care. The configuration of nursing care concludes the nursing staff, their nursing skills, and the level of education that each nurse holds. The process of nursing care concludes the nursing assessments, intervention and implimentation. The outcome of nursing care either positive or negative depends on the quantity and quality of the care provided to the patients by the nursing staff (ââ¬Å"Nursing world,â⬠2013) Each nurse should hold proper information and knowledge of nursing care such as knowledge of pressure ulcers. In this scenario every nursing personnel should provide the ultimate nursing care in dealing with pressure ulcers. In order to prevent any pressure ulcer each nursing personnel should be aware of the pressure ulcer concept, their prevention and the correct technique of reducing any other complication related to pressure ulcers. In this case the nurse and the CNA should use their knowledge of preventing any pressure ulcer. The first action is to assess completely the patient for any sign of pressure ulcer such as any erythema or bruising. It is essential that the nursing staff know to reposition the patient and reasses the out of sight sites parts of the body for any sign and symptoms of bruising and shearing. Also it is important for nursing staff to know that, the patients with restraint order, are at higher risk of getting pressure ulcer so the nurse is responsible for proper and effective way of using restraints and on the other hand is supposed to know at what time the restrains are not proper to be used. In the nursing sensitive indicator category also it is included, the patient satisfaction, which was missing out in this scenario; due to the fact that the nurse did not consider the patient satisfaction fact, and she dismissed the incorrect diet, which was being so easily delivered for the patient.if the nurse had the patient satisfaction category in her mind, She also would have report the daughter about the increct diet incident, andà also the nurse would also avoid commenting inappropriate words to the daughter. How Hospital Data Could Advance Quality Care In this scenario the hospital in order to advance the quality of care, could have shared the information about the incident with the nursing personnel. The hospital could provide the best quality of care to the patients and achieve the patientsââ¬â¢ satisfaction, by sharing the data. Advancing the quality of care would have positive effect on both patient satisfaction and nursing care. Knowledge of nursing care empowers the nursing staff in such cases. In this scenario the knowledge of pressure ulcers, restraints and patient care is significant. On the other hand the nursing care in this scenario could have been better and the family/patient could have been cared better if the nursing staff had gotten the best patient care knowledge. Resources Available Several resources exist in the hospital in order to address the nursing sensitive indicators. In this scenario as a nurse I could partner with dietician in order to address the tray issue and deliver the correct tray to the correct patient. To resolve any misunderstandings I would apologize to the daughter of the patient for the incident. I would speak to the nurse who commented inapprotely to the daughter of the patient. I would discuss the situation and possible solutions with the doctor/nurse in charge. I would educate the CNA the proper information about noticing the signs of any pressure ulcers and proper techniques in avoiding them. I also would ask a wound care consultant to provide proper information to the nursing staff about pressure ulcers. To fully provide the best patient care I also would refer the patient and family to any social worker in dealing with any ethical issue that may interfere in the quality of care. The Effect of Organisational Structure and Culture on Information Security Risk Processes
Risk assessment is regarded as an integral part of any information security management framework. This is because an information security management framework exists to enable an organisation to maximise the use of its information within a level of risk that is acceptable to the organisation. In information security management literature risk assessment processes are presented as pivotal to the success of the information security management framework. Risk assessment is used to establish the ISMS, determine the information security risks that an organisation faces, and identify the security countermeasures necessary to reduce the risks to an appropriate level. The emphasis is on an ââ¬Å"appropriate responseâ⬠to the measure of risk where appropriate is considered in the overall context of the organisation. Risk assessment is enmeshed with additional organisational processes that construct what is termed an Information Security Management System (ISMS). An information security management system is primarily described in the information security management standard ISO 27001 [9, clauses 4-8]. It is an abstracted organisational model found in information security management literature which articulates a systematised view of the information security management functions and processes described in much of the information security management literature. The role of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) is to ensure that adequate controls are ââ¬Å"established, implemented, monitored, reviewed and improved, where necessary, to ensure that the specific security and business objectives of an organisation are met. â⬠[8, p. viii]. In this regard, an ISMS is comprised of logical management functions and management processes. The relationship between risk assessment and the other information security management processes is described in Figure One which shows that the processes interact in a continuous loop, termed the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle (PDCA) or Deming Wheel in security management literature. The dominating decision making processes are risk based and constitute some form of risk assessment or evaluation. However the extent to which the process is a ââ¬Å"technicalâ⬠, standardised one, is highly dependent on the organisational context, as this paper discusses.

Political Campaigns essays
Political Campaigns essays In reviewing the last political debets (Bush vs Gore), in each meeting there would be over 5 questions concerning the economy in these political campaigns. How are these fundings used, how much money is actually spend on these "political issues" that not only wealthy indivuals doante but that tax payers pay for. One of the things that was at stake in this presidential election was whether the policies of different candidates will worsen economic inequality and further polarize our country along racial and class lines. (Collins) For one thing between the two major parties there were pretty clear differences in terms of tax policies. A Bush tax plan, including a repeal of the estate tax, would concentrate wealth in fewer hands. A Gore tax plan, including the establishment of Universal Savings Accounts, would put more money in the pockets of people who have been left out of the economic boom back when it happen. In other areas, such as global trade, there are not major differences. Another major issue was social security. Governor Bush has persisted in gross misstatements about a major issue of public policy Social Security that bespeak either ignorance or dishonesty. The key facts about Social Security was: The system is projected to run large surpluses over the next decade and add $2.4 trillion to its reserves. After 2024 expenditures are projected to exceed revenues. Accumulated reserves are projected to be exhausted in 2037. At that point, revenues will cover approximately 70 percent of benefits promised under current law. Neither candidate disputes these projections. (Aaron) ...

5 Words of Advice and 10 Wedding Toasts for the Groom
5 Words of Advice and 10 Wedding Toasts for the Groom At most weddings, it is the bride who takes the center stage. The groom often remains in the background. Most people forget that the wedding day belongs to the groom too. If you are one of the people who do remember this and want to raise a toast to the groom, these 5 tips should be of great help. The groom is as much a part of the wedding as the bride. He may also encounters the usual wedding jitters, last minute panic attacks, and even a small desire to make a dash out of the country. But men are expected to be stoic and gallant, as they wait for their beautiful bride to walk down the aisle, as he waits for her at the altar. In case you are the lucky groom who is ready to get married to the love of your life, here are some last minute wedding day advice for grooms: 1. Make Sure to Get Adequate Rest. Even If You Have Had a Wild Night of Bachelor Party. A cranky bride is bad enough. But a cranky groom is worse. Nobody wants to see you frown, or look grumpy on your big day. So get some rest. If your friends are throwing a bachelor party for you, make sure to not stay up too late, and get stone drunk. The last thing you want to do is draw disapproving glances from the in-laws. 2. Learn Your Wedding Vows Well. If you are reciting your own wedding vows, make sure that you have a copy handy, in case you fumble and flub your lines. Remember, the wedding is being caught on tape. And years from today, you will have to hear about your pathetic wedding vows, and how you sounded like a lunatic. 3. Have Your Best Man and Friends Help You Out. Leave the nitty gritty to your friends and folks. They should have to do some work for all the free booze and food, right? Make sure that the florist, the musicians and the cake artists are taken care of by your friends and relatives. Its your day, after all. 4. Dont Sweat the Small Stuff. Focus on the Moment. Your wedding tie is not in place? Who cares? Do you feel that you look a bit dull? Believe me, nobody will notice. All eyes are on the bride today. You just have to look happy. So do your part, and enjoy the day. 5. Dont Invite Your Exes to the Party. This does not need to be said, but the sooner you bury your past, the better for you. Your future wife is not going to look kindly on your generous act of inviting your exes. It is time to build a new life with a new wife. So let bygones be bygones. Here are some funny, interesting, and inspirational wedding toasts for the groom. Enjoy every moment of your wedding, and make the memory last forever. Analyzing the American Revolution and the French Revolution Essay
Analyzing the American Revolution and the French Revolution - Essay Example At face value, it might not appear as if the American Revolution in the French Revolution shares much in common. However, as a function of analyzing the commonalities and dissimilarities that these two historical occurrences share, the focus of this brief analysis will be to highlight the core commonalities that prompted both the American and French populations to actively resist the level of control that it been placed upon them by the authorities at that time; the British Empire and the French monarchy respectively. Through such an understanding and interpretation,à it is the hope of this author that the reader will gain a more informed level of appreciation for the causal factors that ultimately precipitated the rise of modern democracy within the Western world. Firstly, it must be understood that both the American Revolution and the French Revolution were partially predicated upon the economic hardships that both of these stakeholders were experiencing. In the case of the American colonies, the seven years war/French Indian war had created an economic hardship that the British Empire sought to escape from (Sherman, 2001). The most logical means through which the British Empire could pay off the massive amount of debt that it had accrued during this conflict was to raise taxes upon the colonies that it administered (Brunkhorst, nd). Naturally, unaccustomed to additional duties, tariffs, and taxes, the American population became frustrated with the hardship that living a frontier life, in addition to being expected to pay for the Kingââ¬â¢s most recent war, was too much; lending these individuals to rise up against the British overlords in the hopes that the economic situation and the overall quality/liberty that an individual could have w ithin the 13 colonies could be maximized.
